PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
The University of Utah is a qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). As an employee at the University, you may qualify to have a portion of your student loan forgiven if you have worked the required amount of time.
To qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, you must meet the following criteria:
- Work for a qualifying employer – the University is a qualifying employer.
- Work full time.
- Have a federal direct loan.
- Be enrolled in a qualifying repayment plan.
- Make 120 total loan payments with a qualifying employer.
As of November 11, 2024, the University of Utah Human Resources Management (UHRM) and University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics will no longer accept paper Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) forms.
The University of Utah is a qualifying employer for PSLF. To complete your PSLF form, please do the following:
- Login to Empinfo
- For current active employees: Head to the U of U login and enter you CIS UNID and password
- For terminated employees: Head to empinfo.com and select "Login as employee" from the dropdown menu and create an account if logging in for the first time
- Once logged in, click on "PSLF" located on the left hand side and click "Create PSLF Request"
- Follow the steps on the PSLF request and review/sign
PSLF Help Tool:
To confirm eligibility and submit your PSLF form, we recommend using the PSLF Help Tool on Studentaid.gov. Please review the Become a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Help Tool Ninja guide before starting.
When using the PSLF Help Tool, have the following information ready:

- Employer's Email:

- Hospitals and Clinics Employees - HR_FrontDesk@hsc.utah.edu
Please Note: Human Resources will not approve any PSLF forms showing more than 40 hours worked per week. Our system only recognizes 40 hours as full-time (1.0 FTE), and we are unable to verify any extra hours. Any form submitted with more than 40 hours will be denied and must be resubmitted with the correct number of hours.

You do not need to have a retirement account with either vendor to be able to use the Fidelity or TIAA tool.
