Qualified Family Member Coverage – When Your Child Turns Age 26
Overview
Children covered under a University of Utah health plan lose eligibility at the end of the month in which they turn age 26. Coverage will automatically terminate at that time.
Example:
If your child turns age 26 at any time in June, coverage will end at 12:00 AM on July 1.
What to Expect
At the beginning of the month in which your child turns age 26, you will receive an email from AskHR@utah.edu outlining next steps.
Action is required only if your child is:
- Unmarried, and
- Meets one of the continuation criteria below
If applicable, follow the instructions provided. If not, no action is required and coverage will end automatically.
Continuation of Coverage

To qualify, your child must be unmarried and meet one of the following criteria:
- Enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited institution
