Add a Child
You can add your child to your benefits after gaining a child through birth, adoption, foster placement, or legal guardianship.

This includes:
- Birth of a child

Legal guardianship clarification:
You may add a child if you have been granted legal guardianship by a court.
This may include:
- Grandchildren

- Nieces or nephews
- Other dependents under your legal care
Important:
Legal guardianship requires official court documentation.

- Birth → use the child’s date of birth
- Adoption → use the placement or finalization date

Entering the Correct Date (Important)
Your event date determines:

- How your payroll deductions are calculated
Example:
If your child is born on 3/10, enter 3/10 as the event date.
Coverage will be retroactive to the event date, which means:
- Your child is covered starting that day

You can complete enrollment without it.
Once you receive the Social Security Number, please update it as soon as possible to ensure records are complete.
